Conductor

Przemysław Neumann

Przemysław Neumann graduated from the Academy of Music in Poznań, where he studied symphonic and operatic conducting under Professors Jerzy Salwarowski and Antoni Gref.

In 2002, he won Third Prize at the 3rd Competition for Young Conductors in Białystok. As a conductor, he has worked with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra, and the orchestras of the Poznań, Białystok, Koszalin, Gorzów, Częstochowa, Lublin, Kraków, Szczecin, Silesian, Lower Silesian and Świętokrzyska Philharmonics, as well as the Baltic Opera and the Toruń Symphony Orchestra.

While still a student, he began collaborating with the Music Theatre in Poznań, where he served as conductor and head of the orchestra until 2013. Over nine artistic seasons, he prepared several premieres and conducted several hundred performances and concerts. He also collaborated with the Grand Theatre in Poznań and the Gliwice Music Theatre.

After completing his doctoral degree in 2009, he joined the Department of Conducting at the Academy of Music in Poznań as a faculty member, serving as Head of the Department from 2019 to 2020. In 2017, he obtained his postdoctoral degree (habilitation) in musical arts, and in 2019 was appointed University Professor.

His alma mater became a setting for numerous educational and artistic projects, including concerts with the Academy Symphony Orchestra, with which he recorded an album of music by Karol Kurpiński; projects with the Sinfonietta Orchestra, of which he was Artistic Director from 2009 to 2013; annual student opera productions at the Grand Theatre in Poznań; and concerts presented as part of the Kreaspiracje series.

In 2015, Przemysław Neumann was appointed Director of the Opole Philharmonic. This coincided with the beginning of his intensive work devoted to unjustly neglected Polish music. These efforts resulted in the Forgotten Polish Music concert series, presenting primarily works composed during the period when Poland was partitioned, as well as a publishing series under the same title.

Scores and orchestral parts of works by composers such as Karol Kurpiński, Witold Maliszewski, Feliks Nowowiejski and Zygmunt Noskowski were prepared in collaboration with the Dla Kultury Foundation, established in 2016 and chaired by Przemysław Neumann. Conducting the Opole Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, he has also made a number of recordings devoted to the works of Polish composers.

Since 1 September 2024, Przemysław Neumann has served as General and Artistic Director of the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin.
